The Pajama Penguin: An Introduction
Good morning, afternoon, or evening, Vinylmation World readers! My name is Gabriele Nichols, and I’m the newest member of the Vinylmation World team. You probably don’t know me from my infrequently updated blog, Pajama Penguin Productions, but I’m a lifelong Disney fan who also happens to love these trinkets of design called Vinylmation.
While I’ve collected Vinylmation and vinyl toys in general for several years, my collection only recently blossomed. Once I moved closer to Disney World and its multitudinous stores, the hobby became a bit of a mania for my wife and I. We’re in denial about how much we spend on these rather spectacular hunks of plastic, and it is probably better that way. I don’t think I want to know the total.
Since I’m a little late to the experience, I’m fascinated by the huge assortment of figures that have come so far and those that are still being produced. Like all vinyl toys, they represent a wide array of interests, from Disney characters well known and obscure, to attractions, to just the wild imaginations of artists. Vinylmation designs also manage different degrees of success, from the truly inspired to the downright baffling.
While I hope to contribute news and happenings to this community, I will also be examining Vinylmations past and present with a critical eye. Not just the pros and cons of a figure or set, but also some insight into the origins of these designs and what they represent. I also hope to give my perspective on Vinylmation news and events, as a fan who also understands Disney’s goals as a business.
Last of all, I want to thank Vinylmation World for giving me this opportunity to explore and analyze this wacky little world we call Vinylmation, and all of you readers for joining me on the journey.
