Series: Animation Series 3
Artist: Maria Clapsis
The Animation Series is quickly establishing itself as one of the key Vinylmation collections. Already on its 3rd series, it provides a way for artists to highlight both famous and obscure characters from Disney’s animation history. These are mostly classic depictions and designs, not stylized or themed. This series also allows others, especially the Parks series, to focus on their own themes without having to include a lot of characters.
Eeyore is definitely not an obscure character. One of the many classic creations of A.A. Milne, Eeyore is the depressive, cynical, yet loveable donkey that often finds himself on adventures with Winnie the Pooh and the other animals of the Hundred Acre Wood. Disney has expanded on the original books with movies, television shows, and theme park attractions. Eeyore can be found dwelling inside numerous Winnie the Pooh rides, including The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, and is often found wandering the park as a costumed character.
Like the rest of the Winnie the Pooh franchise, Eeyore has also had an incredible amount of merchandise devoted to his image. However, there has only been one Vinylmation so far. Animation 3 includes the second Eeyore, and the first one devoted to a traditional depiction of the Disney version of the character. Like he is in the animated features, this Eeyore is entirely shades of bluish grey, with features marked out in black. Much of the design looks like a straight translation from the animated version, down to the pink bow on the painted on tail.
The tail is painted and not an attached feature, which is a slight disappointment. However, this figure is still a strong depiction, including little details like the character’s stuffed animal stitching and droopy ears. The expression is a perfect gloomy frown, accentuated by the rounded form of the newer Vinylmation mold. The Vinylmation’s actual ears contain rainy clouds that are wonderful reflections of Eeyore’s constant mood and a perfect compliment to the design. Overall, it’s a great figure that shows the high quality of design the Animation series is achieving.
